Grade 5: Experimentation with Simple Machines
Using rollers to move a textbooks:This lesson was an integrated lesson in that I made connections to how the pyramids were build using a similar method. In this case though, we used a remote control car to move the box which contained the textbooks.

Making a Windmill:Relating this to not only simple machines but also alternative energy sources we use today.

Unexpected initiative:These two boys created their own windmill outside of school out of lego! This was not an assigned task and it was inspirational to their peers to see initiative being taken outside the classroom.
Playground Fun:Students had a wonderful way of relating a long of simple machines to the playground. The "gliders" were thought of as a pulley system. The teeter totter was though of as a lever with its fulcrum in the centre. The slides were inlined planes and there were several screws used to hold together the structures in the playground.

Kindergarten: You and Your World
In circle time we discussed family dynamics. This book was written by an aboriginal and included many wonderful examples of family dynamics and the various ways they are formed.

Below: This book covered so many outcomes. It demonstrated a family structure, counting from 1-12 and also a read a loud was done in circle time. This was a great introduction to a math lesson. and fun to read close to the Christmas holidays.
